Import-Merge Project Data

The ARRT Requirements Definition has capabilities that allow users to share information between multiple copies of the tool as well as different Projects.



Import/Copy Project Data



When you click the "Import" button on the Project List page, a dialog will open with five options:

  • "Import Project" - imports a complete Project from another version of the tool.
  • "Import High Level Objectives*" - imports the High Level Objectives (HLOs) you select from a Project in another version the tool.
  • "Import Deliverables" - imports Deliverables from Projects in this version as well as others.
  • "Copy High Level Objectives*" - copies the HLOs you select from one Project to another within your version of the tool.
  • "Import Results Categories" - imports Results from another version of the tool or from SAM.
  • "Import Templates" - imports a Requirement (PWS/SOW/SOO) and/or QASP template from another version of the tool.
  • "Import from Excel" - imports a WBS and its components from Microsoft Excel.

Click the option that best suits what you are trying to accomplish.

* The label in your version may have different wording based on the nomenclature you have assigned to this WBS Level.



Project Import



ARRT Requirements Definition users can share projects between different versions of the tool by using the "Import Project" function. To perform this function, follow the instructions below:

  • Select the file that contains the desired Project by clicking the "Browse" button.
    • Navigate to the file by searching for the folder where it is saved.
    • Click "OK" when you have selected the file.
  • Select the Project you want to import by clicking on the Project name in the box.
  • Click the "Import" button.
  • A confirmation box will appear if the Import was successful.
  • The new (imported) Project will appear in the Project List with a naming convention "ABC Project - Import".



Import High Level Objectives



Users can import portions of Projects from other versions of the tool by using the "Import High Level Objectives*" function. To perform this function, follow the instructions below:

  • Select the file that contains the desired Project by clicking the "Browse" button.
    • Navigate to the file by searching for the folder where it is saved.
    • Click "OK" when you have selected the file.
  • Select the Project that contains the HLOs you want to import by clicking on the Project name in the box.
  • Choose which HLO(s) you want to import. You can select multiple HLOs by holding down the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard as you click.
  • Select the "Destination Project" for the HLOs from the list of Projects currently in your version of the tool. Please note: locked Projects will not appear in this list.
  • Click the "Import" button.
  • A confirmation box will appear if the Import was successful.

Deliverables Import



Users can import Deliverables from one version of the tool to another by using the "Import Deliverables" function. To perform this function, follow the instructions below:

  • Select the file that contains the desired Deliverables by clicking the "Browse" button.
    • Navigate to the file by searching for the folder where it is saved.
    • Click "OK" when you have selected the file.
  • Select the appropriate Source Folder and Project you want to import by clicking on the Project name in the box.
  • Next, click on the Deliverables you want to import. You can select multiple Deliverables by using the "Shift" and "Ctrl" buttons on your keyboard.
  • Now, select the Destination Folder and Project where you want to put the Deliverables.
  • Click the "Import" button.
  • A confirmation box will appear if the Import was successful.



Copy High Level Objectives



ARRT Requirements Definition users can copy High Level Objectives (HLOs)* from one Project to another inside the same version of the tool by using the "Copy High Level Objectives" function. To perform this function, follow the instructions below:

  • Select the Source Project that contains the HLOs you want to copy by clicking on the Project name in the box at the top.
  • Choose which HLO(s) you want to copy. You can select multiple HLOs by holding down the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard as you click.
  • Select the Destination Project for the HLOs from the list of Projects currently in your version of the tool. Please note: locked Projects will not appear in this list.
  • Click the "Copy" button.
  • A confirmation box will appear if the Copy was successful.

* The label in your version of the tool may have different wording based on the nomenclature you have assigned to this WBS Level.





Import Results Categories


Categories can be Imported into the tool for use in your Projects. SAM is a resource for downloadable Categories. Go to the Result Categories Download page to see a list of available Categories.

  • To Import a Category, click the "Import" button.



  • Click the "Browse" button to navigate to the file that contains the Categories, then click "Open".
  • Choose the Category and Subcategory that you want to Import. A list of the Category's Results will appear in the column on the right.
  • Click the "Import" button.
  • A message box will appear indicating that the import is complete.





Import Templates


This function allows you to import Requirement (PWS/SOW/SOO) and QASP Templates from a different copy/version of the tool.

Remember that the template only affects future projects that are created using the “New Project” button. Existing projects will not be affected by importing or changing the template.

  • To Import a Template, click the "Import Templates" button.
  • Click the "Browse" button to navigate to the file that contains the Templates, then click "Open".
  • Click the "Import" button.
  • A message box will appear indicating that the import is complete.





Import from Excel


Users can import a WBS they have created in Microsoft Excel into the ARRT Requirements Definition. To perform this function, follow the instructions below:

  • Select the Destination Folder and ARRT Requirements Definition Project into which you want to import the WBS.
  • Select the Excel file that contains the WBS by clicking the "Browse" button.
    • Navigate to the file by searching for the folder where it is saved.
    • Click "OK" when you have selected the file.
  • Use the following fields to determine the range of the data in the spreadsheet. The fields with an asterisk are required.
    • Worksheet* - use the dropdown box to select the Excel worksheet that contains the data.
    • Row with Headings - enter the Excel row number that contains the column headings of the data.
    • First Row of Data to Import* - enter the Excel row number that contains the first row of data that you want imported.
    • Last Row of Data to Import* - enter the Excel row number that contains the last row of data that you want imported.
  • Using dropdown boxes, select the Excel columns that contain the data for the following fields. The fields with an asterisk are required.
    • WBS Number*
    • Tasks*
    • Task Description
    • Task Comments
    • Standards
    • Acceptable Quality Levels (AQLs)
    • Standards Comments
    • Inspection Whats
    • Inspection Hows
    • Inspection Whos
    • Inspection Incentives/Remedies
    • Inspection Comments
  • Click the "Import" button.
  • A confirmation box will appear if the Import was successful.
